About our Knives

WHY CHOOSE MAC KNIVES

Reason #1   WORLD’S SHARPEST

MAC knives’ legendary razor-like edges are sharper than those of any major cutlery manufacturer.  One slice with our knives and you will experience for yourself the true definition of sharpness.

Reason #2   EFFORTLESS SLICING

MAC knives feature thin, flexible blades which glide effortlessly through fruits, vegetables, meats, & fish.  Other knives, especially those of forged construction, have thick, stiff blades which actually “wedge” in the cut and must be forceably pushed through to complete each slice.

Reason #3   STAYS SHARPER LONGER

MAC knives have been hardened to 57º to 61º Rockwell C.  Other knives are “softer” and consequently the edges change shape and dull more quickly in use.

Reason #4   LESS FATIGUE

MAC  knives are light in weight, perfectly balanced, and ergonomically designed to reduce fatigue during your cutting chores. The design of the MAC knife is so unique that it has received numerous awards and is patented around the world.

Reason #5   VALUE

No matter how expensive the knife, there are none better than the MAC knives.  Yet our knives are reasonable priced and with proper care & maintenance, they will provide many, many years of  exceptional service.

History of MAC knives

Seki, a small town located in Gifu Prefecture, Japan, is renowned for its sword and knife making.  This region was a historically strategic and centrally located base for feudal warlords who sought to unify and control Japan during the Sengoku Period (1467-1573).   In Seki, master sword smiths found an abundance of three essential resources –pure iron sand and ore, charcoal and crystal clear water.  For over 70o years these artisans have handcrafted and perfected the world’s highest quality blades.

T. Kobayashi was a young Japanese student studying design in the United States in the early 1960′s.  Working as a cook to pay for his college education, he was disappointed by the performance of the heavy, thick forged knives in the kitchen.  One day, in a moment of inspiration, he realized that the ideal knife should be based on the concept of a razor–thin to glide through cuts with minimal resistance, lightweight for precise control, and sharp beyond belief.

Upon his return to Japan, he started MAC Corporation and embarked on a mission to create the finest knives in the world.  He skillfully combined traditional methods with modern technology by blending the extreme edge hardness for maximum edge retention with molybdenum and tungsten alloys for increased strength.  He incorporated high carbon content for sharpness, but with added chromium and nickel for rust and stain resistance.  Finally, he honed the sharpest edge, but with a “V” bevel grind for less cutting resistance and greater control than traditional “kataba” or single beveled blades.

MAC knives are still handmade in Japan by craftsmen with many years of experience. Each knife is a masterpiece that reflects their pride and spirit.  With your first slice, you will experience the sensation of the blade gliding effortlessly and precisely through the cut.  Over time, you will appreciate how long the edges stay sharp and how easily they resharpen.  MAC knives will undoubtedly provide many years of unparalleled satisfaction and exceptional service.
